What do 916, 999 and 999.9 mean?
Gold fineness states the gold content in parts per thousand. A stated purity of 916 means 916 parts gold per 1,000, or 91.6%. 999 means 999 parts per 1,000, or 99.9%. 999.9 means 999.9 parts per 1,000, or 99.99%. The 999 and 999.9 grades are separate; check the grade shown for the specific item.
For more background on how fineness is expressed, see the World Gold Council's explanation of gold jewellery purity.
Does higher purity set the product price?
No. Purity is one detail to check. An item's weight, design and other product details can also affect its quoted price. A per-gram reference rate is different from the price of a finished design. Read the gold price guide before comparing a rate with a product listing.
How do I check a Goldfinch design?
Open the relevant jewellery collection or bullion catalogue, then check that product's stated purity, weight and available options. If a detail is missing or a variant differs, ask customer service to confirm the exact item and quotation before payment. A website enquiry does not reserve stock or confirm a purchase; see the frequently asked questions.
